New to Curling?

Thinking of trying the sport of curling?

yellow rocksCurling is a unique sport that requires both skill and strategy. It is often referred to as chess on ice. It is a lifelong sport that can be learned at any age. Whether playing in a competitive or recreational league, the emphasis is always on sportsmanship, fun and fair play. Being a social sport by nature, it is not uncommon for teams to socialize off the ice where lasting friendships are often made.

When are games played?

Youth leagues run on Sunday mornings at both clubs, while adult leagues run on week-days, week-nights and weekends.

Do I need to be part of a team to join the club?

You do not need to be part of a team to join either club. You can register for leagues as an individual and the league convener will work to place you on an appropriate team.  In some leagues teams remain in place for the entire season.  In other recreational leagues, teams may be shuffled by the convener several times per season allowing curlers to try new positions and play with a variety of other curlers.  If you want to curl as a couple, or with a friend, generally that can be accommodated too.

What equipment do I need?

At a minimum, a pair of clean rubber soled shoes and loose fitting pants are all you need to get started.

When does the curling season start?

The curling season generally runs from early October to late March or early April. On-line registration at both clubs is held from mid-August to the end of September.
